USA
: Celeritek announced the availability of four new 3mm x 3mm x 1mm power
amplifier modules using Passive-Free Technology (PFT)™ for use
in code division multiple access (CDMA) wireless handsets and other
hand-held systems. Each PA module in the family features 50 ohm input and output matching and is designed to be compliant with CDMA IS-95, CDMA2000 1x, CDMA2000 1x EV-DO and UMTS air interface standards. Targeting markets in Asia, North America and Europe, Celeritek's new PFT™ family includes the CHP0226 for Cellular CDMA (824-849MHz), CHP1237 for KPCS (1750 MHz to 1780 MHz), the CHP1238 for CDMA/USPCS (1850 MHz to 1910 MHz) and the CHP2239 (1920MHz-1980MHz) for W-CDMA. All modules are offered in a compact, 3mm x 3mm x 1mm molded package. Using PFT™ the modules are only 1.0 mm in thickness or 20% thinner than other PA modules. This breakthrough gives Celeritek's handset customers additional space to add new features and functionality while at the same time significantly reducing the total bill of materials. To enable longer handset talk and standby times, Celeritek has improved on typical battery current efficiency. The new 3mm x 3mm x 1mm PFT™ modules exceed 40% efficiency for all CDMA standards. Summaries of the 3mm x 3mm modules are shown in the table below. Model No Frequency (MHz) Pout (dBm) Gain (dB) ACPR (dBc) PAE % CHP0226-X3 824-849 28.0 29.0 -50 40 CHP1237-X3 1750-1780 28.0 28.5 -50 40 CHP1238-X3 1850-1910 28.0 28.0 -50 40 CHP2239-X3 1920-1980 28.0 28.0 -39 45 In compliance with the international directives for a reduction in hazardous materials in electronic manufacturing, all PFT™ based modules are Lead-Free. "These modules reflect our breakthrough product design capabilities. In less than 6 months from our strategic acquisition of Tavanza we have sampled the smallest, most integrated power amplifier modules available," said Tamer Husseini, president and chief executive officer of Celeritek. "Our strategy is working. We are focused on growing our market share by targeting the changing demands of the handset market and offering lower cost, technically superior products. We believe the competitive benefits of our 3mm x 3mm x 1mm power modules position us well for market share gains." Recently, the company delivered samples of the 3mm x 3mm x 1mm PFT™ power amplifier modules to leading wireless handsets OEMs, thereby providing early access to advanced integration technologies for next-generation handsets and data terminals. "The 3mm x 3mm x 1mm form factor is the smallest available for CDMA PA modules," said Hamid Rategh, vice president of engineering for Tavanza. "Patent pending integration and linearization techniques have enabled us to set new benchmarks for efficiency and linearity, both of which are vitally important in today's feature rich wireless devices. Additionally, breakthrough design methodology significantly reduces the learning cycle necessary for product deliverables." Vice President of Advanced Marketing and Technology, Damian McCann went on to say, "By comparison, most current-generation PA modules not only occupy greater board area but also contain numerous external components that add cost and supply line complexity and decrease the final value of the product offering. Celeritek is applying PFT™ to future generations of highly integrated PA modules that will extend across all major air interface standards and provide our customers better performance and greater value." Celeritek designs and manufactures products using InGaP HBT, pHEMT and MESFET GaAs processes tailored to support high data rate transmission. Celeritek's products are used worldwide by leading manufacturers of handset and data terminals and networking infrastructure products. Pricing and Availability Celeritek's CHP0226-X3, CHP1237-X3, CHP1238-X3 and CHP2239-X3 power modules are sampling now. The new PA modules are priced at $1.75 in qty's of 100K. |
