The S320/S500 campaign, which will be supported by massive advertising in China, is intended to boost TCL's sales volumes and increase brand recognition. The S320, which has been created especially for the campaign, features a 4k colour LCD, polyphonic ringer, Personal Information Manager and many other sophisticated features. TCL has selected the WISMO Pac P3203 hardware platform, software, and the Open MMI development tool for customisation of the telephone's man-machine interface. Wavecom and TCL have worked closely together to carry out the integration and qualification of the product.

Dr. Wan Mingjian, CEO of TCL Mobile Communication, said: "The S320 campaign is an important element in the strategy we are deploying to meet our ambitious sales objectives for 2003. We wanted to create an attractive telephone that we could get to the market in a minimum of time. As a key technology partner for TCL, with a proven track record, it was natural for us to turn to Wavecom for this project. We are very pleased with their extended offering, and are particularly excited about the Open MMI development tool which allows us to customize the telephone's look and feel in a very quick and easy way."

Didier Dutronc, Managing Director of Wavecom Asia Pacific Limited, said: "Since we started to work with TCL in 1999, they have become one of the top players in the handset market, and keep showing an impressive ability to understand and respond to consumer demand. We are proud to have contributed to many of their previous product successes and delighted to be selected to support this new, exciting initiative."

The S320 campaign will be rolled out in most major Chinese cities from April through August 2003. The campaign will include extensive billboard advertising, Internet and regional radio advertising, as well as display material throughout the distribution network.
