Alternative Broadband Wireless Access Technologies |
|
1st April , 2004 |
| Europe : The mobile industry is beginning to look towards Alternative Broadband Wireless Access technologies to power data services as it becomes increasingly evident that WCDMA, particularly the Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) schema, does not have the horsepower to deliver the data speeds which have been hyped over the last three years. As a result, analysts estimate that capital expenditure on alternative broadband wireless equipment will grow almost 4,000% from US$24 million in 2003 to US$970 million by 2008.* 'Amongst the candidates being pushed by different vendors as THE solution for an alternative broadband solution are Flash OFDM, technologies based on Time Division Duplex, and the many and increasing number of proposals from the IEEE 802.xx camp.' says Gavin Patterson, editor of 3G Mobile Newsletter. Out soon from Baskerville, the new Alternative Mobile Broadband Access report examines the rationale behind this search for a new technological solution and discusses key issues which impact on the search such as: 3G evolutionary strategies, standardisation status, spectrum allocation, claimed and achievable data speeds, symmetric and asymmetric traffic operations and developments beyond 3G. The report includes profiles of the key vendors in this arena covering: company background, technology offer and deployment status. |
