First Opera Wireless Phone in Japan

26th April , 2004

ASIA : Kyocera and Opera Software ASA today announced that the handset AH-K3001V is going to be launched mid May in Japan, marking the first time Japanese handset users can get access to all the content that is available worldwide on the full Internet. The AH-K3001V is available to DDI Pocket AirH"PHONE subscribers.

The AH-K3001V is the first handsets in the upcoming new generation of browser-centric phones where access to the full Internet is the device's key feature. These devices are designed from the ground up to allow for a great Internet experience, including a high-quality screen and an Opera- branded softkey that easily brings users online for Web surfing. On the AH-K3001V users will be able to enjoy full Web surfing, made possible by Opera's breakthrough Small-Screen Rendering (SSR) technology that reformats Web pages to fit on small handheld screens. Since Opera also supports cHTML and XHTML, Japanese mobile users will also be able to access their old favorite mobile sites.

"Opera means freedom to browse any Internet content that users may find useful," says T. Yamamoto, General Manager, Wireless Access Division Corporate Communication Systems Equipment Division, Kyocera Corporation. "With Opera providing users full Internet access on the AH-K3001V, Kyocera strongly differentiates its product from others competitors in Japan, to the benefit of Japanese consumers. Today's launch marks the beginning of a new era where Japanese consumers can access and harness the full power of the Internet - anywhere and at any time."

Kyocera and Opera have previously announced the delivery for the Chinese market, under the names V91 and PS-900. The handset runs on Opera's port to the MicroITRON operating system, and features the latest in Opera's browser development, Opera 7. Opera 7 ensures the highest performance, with added speed and the most advanced standards support available in any Web browser today.

"We are extremely proud of the AH-K3001V. Offering the full content of the Internet easily available on a high-quality screen, it will offer Japanese users an incomparable Internet experience," says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO Opera Software "Together, Kyocera and Opera have made a product that will shine in Japan's advanced mobile market."
