From April 2005 every Orange customer that downloads a music track to their mobile could help make their favourite pop stars become UK chart toppers. “The Official UK Singles Chart is evolving to embrace the massive growth in popularity of digital music, recognising and including music sales from all major media, including the High Street, Internet and mobile. This will ensure that the Official Singles Chart remains the most accurate barometer of the UK’s music taste and consumption,” said James Gillespie, product and new media coordinator, Official UK Charts Company. “The Official UK Chart’s decision to include music downloads from Orange World in its Chart demonstrates that the music industry has recognised the rising importance of mobile music downloads within the digital music sphere,” said Mark Ashford, head of music, Orange UK. “The advent of digital music downloads on mobile means that up-to-date phones also act as music players, making digital music accessible for one in three people in the UK.” Ashford continued, “Orange is a mobile music pioneer and is committed to the music industry. Downloading music to mobile phones is a new and exciting way for artists to get their music out there.” Find music on your Orange phone Music Player enables Orange users to download and enjoy the latest music tracks on their mobiles. Music Player can be downloaded for use on a wide range of Orange phones that include the SPV E100, E200 & C500, Nokia 3230, 6600, 6630, 6680 and 7610 and Sony Ericsson P800, P900 & P910. Music downloads form Orange World cost £1.50 per track. Orange users can browse through the latest releases or search for the artist of their choice on Music Player. Music Player is free to browse, preview tracks and download from Orange World (standard GPRS rates apply). |
