The plan is to establish Kamera as a leading international distributor of mobile TV news and entertainment. The management team at Kamera has acquired the mobile video delivery business from World Television, who will retain a 10% share, in order to focus on the fast growing market for mobile and Internet TV content. With the roll-out of 3G, the demand for video content is expected to increase significantly. “This buyout enables us to focus one hundred per cent on distribution of mobile and web TV content. We are especially positive about the developments in the mobile TV area since users already seem to be willing to pay for content” says Henrik Eklund, CEO at Kamera. Kamera has been distributing TV content to online publishers since 1998, when the company initiated a long term cooperation with the Associated Press Television News (APTN). During 2003 Kamera extended the business by also delivering to mobile platforms. The videos delivered – within news, sports and entertainment – are normally short clips specially adapted for mobile consumption. ”Surveys show that mobile customers prefer short clips that they can watch to kill some time while commuting, waiting in queues or similar. And that’s exactly what we deliver, fast news and entertainment” says Eklund. With an advanced technical platform Kamera has streamlined video adaptation and delivery significantly. This is something that publishers of web TV can also benefit from. “Although web TV has seen growing numbers of viewers since many years, it’s only in the last six months that the value chain seem to have come in place. With millions of viewers every week, advertisers finally have started spending their money in this channel. What we’re experiencing right now is what people were hoping for during the IT bubble” says Eklund. About Kamera Kamera distributes video content for online and mobile publishing. Together with the world’s leading news agency Associated Press Television News (APTN) Kamera has developed video services within news, entertainment and sports. Kamera is based in Stockholm and delivers video content to customers worldwide. |
