Asia’s First 3G Mobile Drama

24th April, 2005 ( see below for all today's 3G news )

ASIA : Cameras started rolling for Asia’s first 3G mobile drama P.S … I Luv U since its announcement in December 2004. Co-produced by MediaCorp Studios and the Media Development Authority (MDA), the 30-episode Chinese mobi-drama is slated to make its debut in Singapore mid-June 2005.

3G mobile users in Singapore can first view this mobi-drama through our 3G partner M1 via video streaming. MediaCorp Studios is equally proud to announce Motorola as our Mobile partner for this 3G collaboration in the Singapore territory. Moving ahead, MediaCorp Studios will continue to distribute this 3G mobi-drama to Asia and beyond, in a bid to spark off a trend in 3G mobi-drama production.

Asia’s first 3G mobi-drama P.S … I Luv U features popular and leading Asian stars including Taiwanese heartthrobs Chiu Tse, Chen Yi Rong, Peter Peng, MediaCorp artistes Qi Yu Wu, Kym Ng, Gurmit Singh, Fiona Xie, Julian Hee and Singapore Idol first runner-up Sylvester Sim in his acting debut. Unlike traditional TV dramas, production of 3G mobi-dramas takes into account the unique characteristics of video streaming and factors such as visual composition on mobile screens, the length of each episode, as well as the highs and lows in the plot development. Shot entirely in Singapore, this romantic idol mobi-drama consists of 30 episodes of approximately 3 minutes per episode.

"3G mobi-drama P.S … I Luv U is MediaCorp Studios’ first venture into the production of 3G content. The development and production of multi-platform content and regionalization are key to our business strategy. With the growing popularity of 3G mobile in Asia, 3G content will become an alternative choice of entertainment. We hope that this bold initiative will springboard MediaCorp Studios to one of the leaders in the production of global multi-platform content,” said Mr Chang Long Jong, Chief Executive Officer, MediaCorp Studios.

Hailing MediaCorp Studios' project, the Media Development Authority's director for industry development, Mr Seto Lok Yin said, "We announced this in December last year during the Asia Media Festival and four months later, production is starting on this very innovative idea. It's one that will ride comfortably on the 3G mobile platform and is certainly a groundbreaking move in terms of new content development and equally new and exciting ways of delivering this content. This project will definitely help to open new markets and expand existing ones for Singapore-made content."

"3G technology enhances our customers' mobile experience with its high speed and quality visuals. Compelling content is the other vital part of the equation. Our collaboration with MediaCorp Studios to introduce Singapore's first Mandarin drama serial made for 3G phones is part of our continual efforts to work with content providers to offer our customers an exciting and entertaining suite of 3G services," said Mr Neil Montefiore, Chief Executive Officer, M1. "

Mr Shane Da Silva, Country Manager, Singapore Motorola Mobile Devices Business said: "Motorola is privileged to be selected as the 3G mobile phone of choice for MediaCorp Studios' ground-breaking 3G drama. Motorola's 3G mobile phones have enhanced the mobile lifestyles of Singaporeans, where they can now stay connected via video calls and enjoy music and entertainment anywhere, anytime. Our partnership with MediaCorp Studios will reward 3G users with exclusive content as well as further promote the 3G revolution to all Singaporeans."

Following the Singapore premiere of the 3G mobi-drama P.S … I Luv U, MediaCorp Studios looks forward to regional collaboration with 3G telco and mobile partners to distribute this first made-for-mobile drama and other 3G content to penetrate the growing international 3G mobile market.
