Tony Tong Delivers Presentation At 2006 China 3G Summit

ASIA China : PacificNet announced today that its Chairman and CEO, Tony Tong, delivered a presentation at the “3G Roundtable” at The 2006 China 3G Summit, April 12-14, at the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center. The 3G Summit runs concurrently with the 20th Tele-Expo China (www.tele-expo.com.cn) and the 67th China Electronics Fair (www.icef.com.cn), one of the largest annual telecom exhibitions in China. The 3G Summit was organized by China’s Ministry of Information Industry (MII) and sponsored by Frost & Sullivan, China-CBN, and Hunan Satellite TV.


With the long anticipated issuance of 3G licenses in China, the 3G Summit draws great attention from industry leaders, telecom experts and scholars, and government officials involved with 3G services, including China’s Ministry of Information Industry (MII), the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, China Netcom, SK Telecom, NTT DoCoMo, ZTE, DaTang’s TD-SCDMA, Frost & Sullivan, TechFaith, NEC, Amoi, CECT, Dopod, leading hardware vendors, handset providers, content providers, and value-added service provides involved in the 3G industry value-chain. The Summit focuses on topics including “3G Content Strategy”, service supervision and administration policies, business cooperative models between the operators and Value-Added Service (VAS) providers, business planning and promotion of VAS, as well as the bundling of 3G applications by the handset and VAS providers. In addition, senior managers from Korea’s SK Telecom and Japan’s NTT DoCoMo presented on their successful 3G experiences, applications, and promotion strategies in the initial phase of their 3G launch in Korea and Japan.

According to industry reports, there are currently 151 3G license holders operating in 56 countries and 207 3G-networks globally, serving a total of 200 million 3G users worldwide. In Asia, 3G subscribers have reached a market share of 38% while 62% of the total mobile subscribers are 3G enabled in Japan and Korea, respectively. According to estimates, the total anticipated 3G market size in China will reach RMB 285 billion (US$35.6 billion) within 5 years after the launch of 3G in China, creating about 30 million new jobs annually in China’s 3G services market.

At the China 3G Summit, Tony Tong, Chairman & CEO of PacificNet, presented the company’s planned “iPACT-3G” value-added service offerings with the anticipated roll-out of 3G services in China. Mr. Tong stated, “PacificNet has been an active player involved in providing VAS and CRM service in China, the world’s largest mobile user base with about 400 million mobile users. With China’s anticipated 3G launch, the stakes are high and the opportunities are immense for new 3G value-added services. Under the “iPACT” program, PacificNet provides all of the hardware, software, application, and content for VAS including a variety of IVR and other wireless and fixed-line VAS content to qualified VAS-Alliance partners on a profit sharing basis. iPACT's VAS content includes video, audio, color ring back tone (CRBT) services, background music (BGM) services, VICQ mobile instant messaging services, sports news, weather forecasts, stock market, humor, songs and mobile karaoke, mobile TV and video, games, entertainment, as well as community-oriented services such as chatline and dating services. Mobile and fixed-line phone users can access PacificNet's VAS-Alliance services through Guangzhou 3G presence in 26 provinces in China.
