US : ADTRAN has enhanced its industry leading OPTI-6100® Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) with the addition of Advanced Ethernet Modules to address growing Ethernet demand for mobile backhaul applications. This innovative Advanced Optical Ethernet solution eliminates bandwidth bottlenecks often encountered with traditional backhaul networks while maintaining the resiliency and synchronization capabilities mobile operators have come to expect. The OPTI-6100, when combined with the Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform and ADTRAN's industry leading HDSL solutions, delivers a comprehensive portfolio of solutions addressing Optical Ethernet, SONET, Ethernet over Fiber, Ethernet over Copper (EoCu), Ethernet over TDM (EoTDM) and T1-based backhaul options for both wireline carriers and mobile operators.

“Backhaul transport providers and mobile operators are looking for ways to cost-effectively add Ethernet to eliminate backhaul costs as they transition to mobile broadband HSPA, WiMAX, and LTE,” said Michael Howard, principal analyst, Infonetics Research. “ADTRAN's approach to Ethernet-based backhaul with the OPTI-6100 provides a quite flexible, cost-effective platform designed for service reliability and availability.”

The OPTI-6100 is a trusted, purpose-built solution for next-generation, fiber-based mobile backhaul applications. It is currently deployed by the top eight US carriers as well as by many wireless service providers and access wholesalers throughout the world for TDM and Ethernet access. The Advanced Ethernet Modules enable the provisioning of E-LINE and E-LAN services along with service aggregation and efficient traffic management. It offers SONET/SDH resiliency, timing synchronization, and operations consistency while providing bandwidth-on-demand capabilities.

Taking advantage of the modular design and efficient packaging of the OPTI-6100 MX and SMX chassis, the solution represents the next generation of Ethernet over SONET (EoS) capabilities. It greatly enhances the flexibility available to service providers enabling them to offer advanced services over existing networks. This next-generation solution has broad appeal offering compatibility with OC-3, OC-12 and OC-48 as well as STM-1, STM-4 and STM-16. The OPTI-6100 mobile backhaul solution complements ADTRAN's strong portfolio of Total Access 5000-based Carrier Ethernet solutions, including EoCu and EoTDM, by addressing requirements for Gigabit Ethernet over Fiber applications.

“Mobile operators require Ethernet access solutions with the highest reliability as they roll-out their next-generation mobile services,” said Jason Morgan, director of product management, Carrier Ethernet and Optical, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “The OPTI-6100, which is already widely deployed for 2G and 3G mobile backhaul links today, offers a well-understood deployment model that can be easily used to wholesale scalable Ethernet services to address the growing mobile backhaul market.”

ADTRAN will be demonstrating its comprehensive portfolio of mobile backhaul solutions at CTIA at booth # 6535 April 1st through 3rd at the Las Vegas convention center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
