First Place in 4G Service Management

First Place in 4G Service Management

7th April, 2009

Europe : Openet has won first place in the 4G Service Management category of the Emerging Technology (E-Tech) Awards. Openet's Fair Usage solution, based upon its FusionWorks Policy Manager and Convergent Charging products, was recognized for its superior ability to enable operator profitability from data services over 4G networks.

Currently, all eyes are on 4G, including WiMAX and LTE, as the future of the wireless industry. Supporting policies for 4G networks is essential to wireless operators' business, and profitably managing 4G networks in conjunction with 3G networks is many service providers' top priority. With its award-winning solution and convergent capabilities, Openet is able to meet both current and future operator needs -- offering a bridge from 3G to 4G, unlike competing policy solutions on the market today.

Openet's Fair Usage solution, along with its entire product line, is unique due to the tight integration of policy with real-time charging. This enables service providers to continually monitor subscriber usage in real time and define limits, which when reached, offer the user the opportunity to either continue using a service at standard speeds at no additional charge, or purchase additional usage in a packaged or pay-per-use format. This ability to interact with subscribers and provide opportunities for upselling is a key differentiator for Openet, and offers operators both revenue lift potential and the chance to create an optimal user experience.

"CTIA's recognition of our Fair Usage solution as a leading 4G service management technology is further proof that Openet is leading the industry in innovation," said Joe Hogan, founder and CTO of Openet. "Through our work with 3GPP helping to author Release 8 Policy and Charging specifications, Openet has demonstrated our commitment to supporting 4G and LTE-based networks. At the same time, we recognize that operators need to regulate fair usage in today's 3G environments, and have architected our solutions to be effective across convergent networks. Our ability to offer interoperable policy and charging solutions gives operators unprecedented network control and revenue opportunities."
