Logica captures whole of wireless messaging marketshare in Hong Kong
20th August 2002

Logica announced it has successfully captured the entire Hong Kong Short Messaging Service (SMS) market by signing a contract with New World Mobility.

New World Mobility, one of the six mobile operators in Hong Kong, has seen enthusiastic growth in the demand for SMS after the Hong Kong inter-operator SMS service was launched last December. Since then, all subscribers from six mobile operators are able to send SMS to each other, regardless of which service provider they use. The company’s commitment to offer a reliable, value-added SMS service to mobile users was a significant factor in the purchase of Logica’s Short Messaging Service Center (SMSC).

Logica 's SMSC is the only product in the industry that supports all major mobile network technologies while maintaining reliable, flexible and scalable performance.

“We are very impressed with Logica’s experience and expertise in messaging,” said Dr Norman Wai, President and Chief Executive Officer of New World Mobility, “With the continuous increase in SMS traffic, we believe Logica’s reliable and flexible SMSC will help deliver an innovative yet stable service to our customers. This will be particularly important in order to cater to the dramatic growth we anticipate during peak periods.”

Logica has now captured 100% market share of Short Messaging Service in Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong, which has enhanced the company’s position as a dominant player in the Greater China market.

“We are delighted to have been selected by New World Mobility for the SMSC offering. This is a significant milestone for the company in Hong Kong as it means we have accomplished 100% market share,” said Marie Holmes, Regional Managing Director of Logica Asia, “The achievement not only imposed great impact on the Great China region, but also places Logica in a very favourable position to strengthen its global leading role in messaging.”
