Access Communication and Nokia have signed an agreement
for the delivery of Multimedia Messaging System (MMS) for its network
in Thailand.
Under
the agreement, Nokia will supply its Nokia Multimedia Messaging
Center (MMSC), as well as the Nokia Terminal Gateway for non-MMS
phones and the Nokia Profile Management server. In addition, Nokia
will provide marketing support.
The
Nokia MMS solution gives mobile subscribers with MMS phones the
ability to send and receive text, images, graphics and sound blended
into a single rich message. MMS-capable phones can also send
multimedia messages directly to any e-mail address. The Nokia
Terminal Gateway makes it possible even for users of non-MMS capable
legacy GSM terminals to receive multimedia messages.
Legacy-terminals users receive an SMS notification and can connect to
a web site to view their MMS message.
"DTAC is happy to further strengthen the good co-operation with
Nokia. We believe, the MMS solution will enable DTAC users to explore
the new dimension of mobile communications and share the moments with
relatives, friends or colleagues." said Boonchai Bencharongkul,
Chairman and CEO of DTAC.
"We
are pleased to expand and deepen our relationship with DTAC for new
multimedia messaging services. Through Nokia's state-of-the-art
MMS solution, DTAC's subscribers will be able to enjoy innovative, fun
and easy-to-use multimedia services. This includes content access, person-to-person
mobile messaging that includes messaging from handset to email, email
to handset or between applications and
handsets. Nokia remains committed to working alongside DTAC, making
the mobile world a reality in Thailand,"said Matti Palomaki, Account
Director, Nokia Networks. DTAC is Thailand's leading wireless communications
brand, with over four million customers. DTAC aims to make mobile communications
easy,
accessible and affordable, under a just and transparent pricing
system. Telenor has been DTAC's strategic partner since 2000.
Within
the industry, Nokia has the longest and most extensive
experience in MMS, having piloted commercial systems since the third
quarter of 2001 and has delivered an MMS solution since December
2001. Nokia's other MMS milestones include the world's first-ever MMS
roaming and interconnection demonstrated in February 2002.
