Narus MobileSight Solution for 3G Operator
27th August 2002

Narus announced the latest release of its convergent mobile mediation solution -- MobileSight -- that speeds the deployment, management, and revenue capture of new segmented or personalized mobile services for voice and data networks.

Picture shows Narus solutions and the Narus platform are built from three (optionally four) components.

MobileSight is based on Narus' convergent mediation platform and provides key information about network, subscriber, and service usage via a seamless interface to mobile voice and data networks, as well as telco business applications. Mobile operators are today using MobileSight to go beyond low-value "vanilla only" services, deploy higher-value segmented services quickly and easily, and increase Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). The MobileSight mobile mediation solution is already in production at major mobile operators in the US and Japan, including the largest and fastest growing Japanese 3G mobile operator, KDDI, who is offering revolutionary new mobile services enabled by Narus.

With the highly detailed information collected and enhanced by MobileSight, operators are able to flexibly create new services -- at a segment or even a personalized level -- and manage and bill for these services. New services that MobileSight is enabling on mobile phones/devices today include: Multi-Media Messaging (e.g. photo taken with mobile phone sent to a friend); location-based services (e.g. personalized maps for navigation); shopping (e.g. reviewing a music or video clip and then ordering a CD); games; sports, news, weather, and travel information. These services are being packaged, marketed, and billed by particular customer segments (e.g. special bundles of mobile content for "Traveling Executive," "Soccer Mom," "Mobile Messaging Teen," or "Sports News Fanatic"). MobileSight is also being used to see trends in service uptake so that a new service can be deployed, tested for interest, and then deployed and packaged in the most business-effective manner based on subscriber demand.MobileSight is a fully convergent mobile mediation solution that supports multi-vendor voice and data networks as well as existing legacy systems. Based on Narus' revenue-grade mediation platform, MobileSight has the field-proven scalability, reliability, and availability required by today's mobile operators. In addition to providing business information for the creation of new services, MobileSight is also able to enhance and feed all billable data into billing systems for both pre and post-paid environments while simultaneously feeding key information to other business applications such as traffic engineering or fraud applications."Narus was one of the first mediation vendors to offer pre-paid capabilities in their mobile offering and their newest release, MobileSight, adds additional functionality to help drive the creation and revenuecapture of new services," said Jason Briggs, program manager with the Yankee Group. "With MobileSight, Narus has tailored their carrier-grade platform to give mobile operators the flexibility to offer and modify new services on the fly, minimizing the need for a costly integration effort. MobileSight's convergent capabilities gives mobile operators what they need for services today with the capabilities to offer the new mobile services of tomorrow."

"MobileSight has already been selected and deployed by leading mobile operators around the world," said Peter Green, president and CEO of Narus. "The powerful convergent capabilities in MobileSight -- coupled with the new mobile networks and the emergence of new mobile handsets and devices -- is helping propel the longstanding vision for new mobile services to be realized."

Benefits of Narus MobileSight to mobile operators include:

-- Fully Convergent. Provides traditional voice mediation capabilities as well as mediaton for next generation networks and services to simplify operations and lower cost.

-- Allows operators to glean information needed to create targeted content-based services for user segments or individuals.
-- Brings increased business flexibility so new mobile services can be created quickly.
-- Enables higher ARPU via the ability to offer higher value services and capture voice and data network information so those services can be billed.
-- Provides real-time information to allow a more instant and customer-centric relationship with subscribers as well as content provider partners of mobile operators.
-- Enables subscriber-friendly business models (e.g. charge by volume, content, transaction, etc. and supports pre and post-paid business models) as well as content-provider friendly business models.
-- Provides an easy interface to existing legacy infrastructure. Works with your existing voice mediation system or can replace it.
-- MobileSight can even work in environments with different vendors' switches (e.g. interfaces simultaneously to different vendors switches such as SGSNs/GGSNs and collects all types of CDRs whether the network is CDMA, 2G, 2.5G, or 3G).
-- Leverages emerging client standards for new mobile handsets and other wireless devices (e.g. BREW, i-mode, Java, WAP, etc.).

MobileSight Technical Summary

Narus was the first revenue-grade, convergent mediation vendor to offer synergistic data collection from both the network wire itself as well as directly from network elements, key factors needed for content-based mediation. Narus has extended this to MobileSight with flexible, easy-to-configure software modules specifically targeted for mobile networks. This includes network analyzers that are easily configured to connect to any voice switch or network device or element, and a memory resident, high performance logic server for filtering, aggregating, correlating and transferring information back and forth between mobile voice and data networks and the mobile back office business applications. These modules also provide operators with the business flexibility needed to offer pre and post paid services and to interact with mobile content providers.
MobileSight also includes software modules that provide a new Charging Gateway Functionality (CGF). The Narus MobileSight CGF provides all standard CGF capabilities such as SGSN/GGSN Call Detail Record collection. The MobileSight CGF is vendor agnostic and is able to simultaneously accept data streams from different SGSN/GGSN vendors which can then be collected, filtered, aggregated, and correlated with application/transaction information from other Narus' analyzers, providing information with even greater business value. The MobileSight CGF processes binary or ASCII CDR formats and -- along with other MobileSight modules -- is also able to synthesize content data from multiple sources beyond GPRS support nodes (e.g. WAP servers, MMS gateways, content servers, etc.) to create data records for billing applications or other OSS applications.
