3G LG U8120 Phone Review

16th August ,2004

Above : On left LG U8110 and right LG U8120

Europe : The LG U8110 ( on left ) has been on sale in the UK since July this year and has been selling extremely well. Kevin Thomas of 3G.co.uk undertook a review of the handset at that time. See review - follow link below.

Review of the LG U8110 can be found here. ( click link ).

Last week, 3 and LG officially launched an updated handset named the U8120. This is the successor to the U8110. We thought it was the ideal time to take a look at their new offering. The LG U8120 is shown above ( on right ) alongside the 8110.

As part of Kevin Thomas' LG U8110 review, the good and bad points were confirmed as follows :

LG U8110 Good Points
LG U8110 Not Good Points
Smallest 3G phone to-date
No Bluetooth
Lightest 3G phone to-date
Only 14MB on-board memory
Normal battery life
No memory expansion facility
Good camera and 65K TFT screen
Protruding aerial
Slick navigation

The changes from the 8110 to the 8120 should be classed as minor yet make the 8120 a much more attractive purchase. As can be seen from the photo above the face of the phone has had a smart uplift and this definitely makes for a more appealing look. It now appears to look even shinier.

The spec for the phone remains the same except for the phones' internal user memory which has been updated from 14MB to 32MB to help with user related memory storage. This means more memory space for audio and video files etc. Below shows the memory comparison of the LG 8110 ( on left ) and the LG U8120 ( on right ). Note the extra free memory with the LG U8120 ( over 20MB more ).

Final comment

Both these LG's are solid phones but the new U8120 looks trendier and the extra user memory is well worth the additional cost. Kevin Thomas of 3G.co.uk prefers the LG U8120 for these reasons.
