First SKY Branded PCS Wireless Phone |

ASIA : Pantech has just unveiled its first SKY branded PCS camera phones targeting sophisticated users in the premium market. SKY brand is used by SKY Teletech Co. in the Korean market for cellular phones. With the recent acquisition of SKY Teletech, Pantech is now able to leverage the synergy created between the two companies and offer PCS phones using the SKY brand. It is estimated that the Korean mobile phone market is composed of 50% PCS, and 50% cellular telephony. Sung-Kyu Lee, President & CEO, Pantech Co., Ltd., said: “This has two very important business implications. First, SKY branded phones are now available to PCS phone users who take up almost half of the market. Secondly, we are already seeing close collaboration between SKY Teletech and Pantech in providing customers with what they want - a great product with a brand they love.” Pantech, already a number two player in the Korean market, plans to continue building and expanding a strong foothold in the premium market by introducing SKY branded PCS phones in Korea. IM-8500, the first SKY branded PCS phone will have innovative design and function. Il-Jung Kim, chief executive officer of SKY Teletech, said: “This Dica-Phone is the most user friendly and design friendly phone out in the market. If you slide-open the back cover, it automatically becomes a digital camera that look and feels like a camera.” In particular, IM-8500 features embedded 2 mega pixel CMOS camera with panoramic view and 5 different photographic modes, 3D sound with 15Fi stereo speaker, wheel navigation key for ease of use. IM-8500L will be available at LG Telecom retail stores while IM-8500 will be available in SK Telecom stores. |
