3G Mobile Broadband On A Roll
12th August, 2009
Europe : The latest figures from a quarterly Broadband report for the last quarter of 2008 show that subscriptions for 3G Mobile Broadband have nearly doubled within Europe. Infocom reports that mobile broadband subscriptions jumped from 6.6 million to 12. million subscribers within Europe in 2008.
These figures, coupled with a number of key factors means that the trend will continue. The factors driving the uptake are :
- Price cuts and flat rate plans, with many 3G mobile operators competing for what consumers see as a desirable product.
- Improved 3G networks and speeds, many of Europe’s 3G operators have increased network coverage and updated to much faster 3G HSDPA networks.
3G mobile broadband connections accounted for just over 10% of all broadband connections in Europe for 2008. Austria and Finland are noted as the market leaders for broadband take-up. The trend for increased 3G mobile broadband subscriptions is predicted to continue for the next five years.
