UK : Monotype Imaging Holdings has enhanced its FlipFont™ mobile font download solution to support the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and N97 phones, and the Samsung Omnia® HD i8910 model.

The three touchscreen phones, in addition to the Nokia E52, E63 and E65®-NG models, bring the total number of FlipFont supported handset brands to 52.

Additionally, 10 mobile-optimized fonts have been added to the FlipFont collection, enabling users to choose from a total of 29 fonts to personalize the look of their phone’s user interface, menus and various applications. The full collection is available directly from supported phones through Monotype Imaging’s mobile e-commerce site, http://www.flipfont.mobi.

The new capabilities are the latest in a series of FlipFont evolutions, aimed at allowing more mobile consumers across the globe to use a growing selection of fonts. In June, Monotype Imaging expanded FlipFont availability to Europe and the Americas through direct access on supported phones from FlipFont.mobi. Prior to that, the product was available in the UK, first through Vodafone UK and its Vodafone Live! ® multimedia portal, followed by mobile operator 3 UK, which allows users to access FlipFont from the 3 UK personalization homepage.

“Once again, we’ve taken a significant step in advancing FlipFont to reach more users while also enhancing our palette of mobile typefaces,” said John Seguin, executive vice president of Monotype Imaging. “FlipFont allows consumers to use fonts that are simply fun to use. Our plan is to continue to add device support and introduce an ongoing stream of new fonts.”

The 10 new fonts include the Agincourt™ design, an Old English type style with intricate capitals; the Alleycat™ font featuring a whimsical look; the Chiller™ font, designed to be both creepy and fun; the ITC Grimshaw Hand™ design, a handwriting font that evokes warmth and spontaneity; the Improv™ font, with its bold and casual demeanor; the Lemonade™ font, a design with a youthful appeal; the Trackpad™ font, an edgy, calligraphic design; the Whimsy™ font, with its curly-cue flair; and the Willow™ font, a design send-up to the craftsman style. Also new to the FlipFont collection is the Soho® Gothic typeface, designed to achieve high legibility and created exclusively for Monotype Imaging.

The FlipFont solution includes three trial fonts that can be used at no charge for up to two days. The trial fonts include the attention-grabbing Musclehead™ typeface, the classic Zapf Chancery® script font and the versatile Equinox™ design.
