of Java Technology in Japan |

Mr. Koriyama and the four other recipients were honored at an awards ceremony on November 21 in Tokyo. Candidates with unique ideas originating in Japan were selected from diverse professions and fields including: engineers who contributed to the development of technology in Japan through creative research, those with innovative technology and business models that have the potential to nurture the future of the Japanese industry, and people who put their efforts to revitalizing the business of major companies. Mr. Koriyama, who received an Excellence Award, was recognized for facilitating the application of Sun Microsystems' Java(TM) software technology to wireless devices, such as mobile phones. Java(TM) was initially implemented in PCs and servers. Aplix' JBlend(TM) technology has shipped in more than 12 million mobile phones and home electronics devices, and is used by 12 out of 13 manufacturers offering Java 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME(TM)) technology-enabled mobile phones in Japan. Aplix, headquartered in Tokyo, has been leveraging its leadership into the North American, European and Asian markets through its Aplix Corporation of America affiliate and Paris office. In a news release, NikkeiBP described Mr. Koriyama as "a pioneer in Japan to have explored into the age of (the) ubiquitous computer. Although Java(TM) is software originating in the U.S., Java(TM) application to compact information equipments is based on a totally new idea. He was evaluated for creating an opportunity for the Japanese computer industry to make a leap forward.
