: T-Mobile UK announced a commercial agreement enabling the launch
of easyMobile in the UK. A telecom service agreement has been signed
between T-Mobile and TDC on an exclusive basis, providing TDC with
wholesale access to the T-Mobile network for a voice and SMS mobile
service.
TDC has secured
exclusive rights from easyGroup to use the “Easy” brand
name for distributing mobile services in the UK for 30 years. TDC
plans to launch EasyMobile as a "no frills", SIM card only
service in March 2005 and plans to use a similar approach to its highly
successful Telmore Danish virtual mobile network operation. EasyMobile
will combine aspects of pre-paid and post-paid subscription service
and will be based on website marketing, distribution and customer
service.
Brian McBride,
Managing Director of T-Mobile UK, said: "We are delighted to
announce today’s agreement with TDC and enable the launch of
easyMobile. As well as our strong T-Mobile branded operations, we
are the UK leaders in providing wholesale services. Today’s
deal reinforces that position and ensures we benefit strongly from
the emergence of no-frills mobile voice services. For T-Mobile it
means further growth, further leverage of our network investment and
further profit to expand our business. For the customer, it means
more choice and a complementary, innovative new service. Next year,
will see a significant increase in T-Mobile UK’s own marketing
and brand building as well as the entrance of this new SIM only offer.”
Henning
Vest, President of TDC Mobile International said: ”The agreement
with T-Mobile UK gives us an excellent opportunity to provide mobile
telephony to British customers on the Telmore concept, which essentially
is simple: good value pricing schemes on an easy-to-use web-based
customer interface. The concept has proven highly successful in Denmark,
where in only four years it has gained a 10% market share.”
