New FOMA 3G Handsets Feature TI OMAP Processors

24th February 2003

Texas Instruments announced that all three new FOMA 3G handset models from NTT DoCoMo will feature TI's high-performance, power-efficient OMAP application processors. These models feature a camera capable of taking still photos and video. The handsets also support iMotion Mail, which enables users to send a video they have recorded as an email attachment. The high processing performance and low power consumption of TI's OMAP1510 processor help enable these rich, real-time multimedia-rich features as well as long battery life, claimed TI.

The new handsets featuring the OMAP1510 processor are as follows: -- N2051 (NEC) -- F2051 (Fujitsu) -- P2102V (Panasonic Mobile Communications)

Texas Instruments widely-adopted OMAP platform is comprised of high performance, power-efficient processors, a robust software infrastructure and comprehensive support network for the development of differentiated 2.5G and 3G multimedia-enhanced mobile devices and software applications. Tailored to support the real-time processing needs of high-end, multimedia-rich wireless handsets and PDAs, TI's OMAP1510 processor provides the processing performance needed to run data-intensive applications like multimedia messaging, interactive gaming, Internet audio, streaming video and location based services, without sacrificing valuable battery life.

TI's OMAP processors support all wireless communications standards and popular mobile operating systems (OS). Software code compatibility is achieved extensively from a scalable family of processors that support simple data applications such as text messaging to others high-performance multimedia, enabling manufacturers to reliably offer next-generation products.
