Finland : Saunalahti is the first operator in Finland to launch mobile
broadband subscriptions of 128 kbit/s and 384 kbit/s at a fixed monthly
fee.
Inset
is Pasi Vanninen, Sales Director of Saunalahtiwho is quoted below.
Mobile
Broadband 128 costs EUR 19.90 per month and Mobile Broadband 384 costs
EUR 29.90 per month. The monthly fee of mobile broadband services
is the same regardless of the amount of transferred data. There is
no activation fees for the services.
”The users consider
that a monthly fee dependent of the speed for the traditional broadband
services is a good and easily understood way of pricing. The same
applies also to mobile data services. Until now, the currently used
pricing based on the amount of traffic has restricted the use of mobile
data services and made it less attractive to start using the service.
The clear and easy-to-understand pricing is the key to the new services,”
says Mr Pasi Vanninen, Sales Director of Saunalahti.
”Saunalahti’s
mobile broadband services provide an Internet connection to a computer
or mobile phone at the price of a traditional broadband subscription.
The services can be used with all 3G data cards and mobile phones.
Outside the 3G network, the connections function at the speeds of
EDGE and GPRS,” continues Vanninen.
Saunalahti’s mobile
broadband services can be used within Elisa’s entire network
in Finland. The highest data transfer speeds are obtained within the
3G network area. Elisa’s 3G network currently covers over 30
largest towns/holiday resorts in Finland. Outside the 3G network,
the connections function at the speeds of EDGE (80-160 kbit/s) and
ja GPRS (30-40 kbit/s). Currently, Elisa’s EDGE covers a significant
part of towns and the most important road and railway connections.
