Spain : ANADIGICS introduced two new multi-mode, multi-band power
amplifiers (PAs). The AWT6223 offers a single-package GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA
solution by combining IMT-band WCDMA operation with quad-band polar
EDGE functionality.
The
AWT6225 integrates an IMT-band WCDMA PA with quad-band GSM/GPRS capabilities.
The new High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) compliant multi-mode
power amplifiers allow wireless handset manufacturers to satisfy the
growing demand for 3G high-speed multimedia services, while saving
25% printed circuit board (PCB) space compared with typical multi-module
solutions.
"ANADIGICS'
new multi-mode 3G power amplifiers, which integrate GSM/GPRS and EDGE
functions in the same package, offer customers a significant size
reduction in terms of board space and height, enabling ultra-thin
wireless product designs," said Dr. Ali Khatibzadeh, Senior Vice
President and General Manager of Wireless Products at ANADIGICS.
"The
best-in-class integration and performance offered by these power amplifiers
help to overcome the challenges that arise from complex multi-PA RF
designs and increase ANADIGICS dollar content per 3G handset."
ANADIGICS' new family of multi-mode 3G PAs utilizes the Company's
second-generation High-Efficiency-at-Low-Power (HELP2(TM)) technology
to reduce WCDMA average power consumption by 50%.
In WCDMA mode, the power amplifier offers outstanding efficiencies
of 43% at 28.5 dBm and 21% at +16 dBm, resulting in longer battery
life and additional talk-time. In GSM mode, the power amplifiers provide
efficiency of 55% in the GSM850/900 bands and 50% in the DCS/PCS bands.

ANADIGICS' new
multi-mode PAs use the Company's exclusive InGaP-Plus(TM) technology,
which integrates bipolar and field-effect transistor (FET) structures
on the same InGaP GaAs die. The new penta-band power amplifiers are
offered in compact 6 mm by 8 mm by 1 mm modules and include an internal
voltage regulator. Both the AWT6223 and AWT6225 provide an integrated
power control scheme with a 50 dB range to speed production calibration
and reduce the number of external components. The products are manufactured
using a materials set consistent with the European Union's Restriction
of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
The AWT6223 is priced at $5.50 in quantities of 10,000 units, and
the AWT6225 is priced at $4.30 in quantities of 10,000 units. Samples
are available now.
