Mobile TV Solutions on First Terrestrial DMB Handsets

20th February, 2006

ASIA Korea : Nextreaming announced that its terrestrial DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) solution - NexTVTM - has been selected by Pantech Group, the second highest selling handset manufacturer in Korea, for its PT-K1800 and PT-L1800 DMB phones.

The new PT-K1800 and the PT-L1800 models from Pantech affiliate, Pantech&Curitel Communications Inc., are designed to help speed up mobile TV services in the Korean market, providing for the increasing trend for increased multimedia services on mobile phones.

Young H. Lee, executive vice president of domestic business R&D center, said: “The Nextreaming solution enables Pantech, through these new handsets, to provide consumers with a genuine mobile TV capability, including flexible usage modes and enhanced multimedia functionality.”

Dr. Il-Taek Lim, President & CEO, Nextreaming, said: “The mobile TV solutions that we design provide handset manufacturers like Pantech with the opportunity to offer users an incredible variety of mobile TV and multimedia services. In turn, this means that handset manufacturers can boost their leadership in the markets in which they operate.”

Pantech chose Nextreaming’s NexTVTM based on a range of criteria - e.g. technology innovation, quality and speed and full-featured multimedia functionality. Pantech had adopted Nextreaming’s satellite DMB solution earlier, providing Nextreaming with a strong foothold in both the satellite and terrestrial DMB solution markets.

The new terrestrial phones accommodate flexible usage modes with the adoption of Nextreaming’s NexTVTM. They can perform multi-tasking functions over answering phones or SMS reception, while watching terrestrial DMB TV. The DMB service is also available for users in a PC monitor via USB connections.

The NexTVTM supports various coding technologies - including H.264, BSAC and HE AAC - and offers TV-OUT and PC-OUT functions. The company’s mobile multimedia technology also provides excellent recording/playback of video and MUSICAM, and featuring snapshots and its viewer.

Nextreaming has addresses the growth of the mobile multimedia phone market with a leading edge product portfolio supporting a full range of terrestrial and satellite DMBs, DVB-Hs, media players, MP3 players and media editors in mobile handsets. The company will level up the features of the NexTVTM by supporting interactive services, such as BIFS (Binary Format for Scene), and data broadcasting, such as the MOT (Multimedia Object Transfer) slide show.
