iPhone users will be pleased to hear that Skype will soon be “totally mobile". Currently Skype users can make Skype to Skype calls and Skype outcalls via Wi-Fi only but soon it will be possible to do this via a 3G network. The video interview can be seen below.
David Ponsford of Skype’s iPhone Team confirmed this will be coming soon. This has come about because Apple has changed the terms of use for developers such as Skype. Skype has been working on the new application to make this work.
The Skype iPhone team have added in a call quality indicator with a green, yellow or red indication of the 3G network or Wi-Fi signal currently available. This is obviously important for calls over 3G networks.
Another improvement via a new software inclusion bringing CD quality sound for Skype to Skype calls. This only applies to iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touch users.
The new Skype Calling Over 3G Networks ( although it wont be called this ) will be available from the Apple store very soon. 3G.co.uk will make sure we post an article as soon as this happens.
