TM Cellular Awaits Decision From MMC On 3G

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- Telekom Malaysia's cellular network operator, TM Cellular Sdn Bhd, which provides the TMTOUCH service, is awaiting decision from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on the third generation (3G) spectrum.

TM Cellular chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohamad Khir Harun ( Inset ) said that the company had submitted the detailed business plans on the 3G to the regulators last month.

"MCMC will come up with the decision and provide us with the spectrum sometime at the end of this month," he told reporters here Friday after presenting a Perdana V6, to Liew Kong Leong, 38, of Petaling Jaya, the grand prize winner of TMTOUCH's Scratch and Win contest.

Telekom Malaysia and Maxis were awarded the 3G licences from among the five who bid for the license from the government valued at RM50 million each.

The implementation of the 3G technology is expected to help in the consolidation of the industry and facilitate the full launch of high-speed data communications services, high-speed internet access and video and music downloads. -- BERNAMA
