| BBC Using 3G Phones |
22nd January , 2004 |
Europe : We all know that TV reporters sometimes use satellite phones for reporting purposes but now the BBC has started using 3G phones. Inset above shows a Barclaycard Premiership video screenshot downloaded via a 3G phone but the quality of live 3G video recording will see clips of much lesser quality which could actually look more dramatic to the viewer on TV. An article in one of the BBC staff magazines has confirmed that BBC reporters have been using 3G phones in the Bristol and London areas. BBC West TV programme Points West has already broadcast footage using 3G phones and further adoption is sure to follow. In the Points West coverage a number of 3G phones were used between the studio and outside in various parts of Bristol. The streaming video footage was then adopted to suit TV. 3G phones are ideal for breaking news coverage : breaking news coverage well before satellite vehicle support arrives or when a member of the public has videoed an event with a 3G phone - just like when a video camera is currently used to capture unplanned events. |
