FLO Technology Demo on 3G Handsets
5th January, 2006

US - QUALCOMM Incorporated announced the Company will conduct live, over-the-air demonstrations of FLO Technology, featuring delivery and viewing of multiple channels of wireless multimedia content, on handsets from LG Electronics MobileComm (LG), a pioneer in multimedia convergence technology.

The demonstration will take place during the 2006 International CES in Las Vegas, Jan. 5-8, in LG Electronics' Booth #8214, LVCC Central Hall. QUALCOMM's FLO Technology demonstrations at CES are the first handset demos with major device manufacturer LG. FLO Technology, a multicast innovation and key component of the MediaFLO(TM) System, is an air-interface technology designed to offer the most capacity and coverage available while reducing for cellular operators the cost of delivering multimedia content to mobile handsets.

"Rich mobile media delivery requires a robust air interface like FLO. The user experience is optimized when users are able to access services on full-feature handsets that support sharp video and high quality audio," said Rob Chandhok, vice president of engineering and market development for QUALCOMM MediaFLO Technologies. "Our demonstrations at CES show that leading handset providers, like LG, recognize the quality and capacity that FLO Technology offers. Seeing FLO Technology in action will assure users that they are experiencing the most advanced multimedia service available."

"FLO Technology will allow us to offer innovative devices to our customers. It gives us the ability to deliver rich, real-time multicast streams of content on our phones, with superior quality and minimal lag time," said Juno Cho, president for LG Electronics MobileComm USA. "LG is committed to delivering the most robust services to our customers to enhance their mobile lifestyle."

Engineered specifically for the mobile environment, FLO Technology offers several advantages over other OFDM-based mobile multicast technologies, including higher-quality video and audio, faster channel switching time, superior mobile reception, optimized power consumption and greater capacity than other multicast technologies. Specific performance features of FLO Technology include:

* Support for up to 20 streaming channels of QVGA (320x240 pixels) quality
video at up to 30 frames per second, 10 stereo audio channels (HE AAC+
parametric stereo) and up to 800 minutes of stored Clipcast(TM) content
per day (short-format video clips)
* An average channel switching time of 1.5 seconds without buffering or
progress bars
FLO Technology reduces the network cost of delivering multimedia content by dramatically decreasing the number of transmitters that need to be deployed. In addition, FLO Technology-based multimedia multicasting will complement wireless operators' CDMA2000(R) 1X, 1xEV-DO and WCDMA cellular network data and voice services, delivering content to the same cellular handsets used on these 3G networks.

MediaFLO USA Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of QUALCOMM Incorporated, offering interactive wireless multimedia services to consumers in cooperation with U.S. wireless operators. The nationwide network, based on QUALCOMM's FLO technology and using the MediaFLO Media Distribution System, will deliver multimedia content to mobile devices in the 700 MHz spectrum for which QUALCOMM holds licenses with a nationwide footprint. MediaFLO USA Inc. expects to begin commercial operation of the new network in the fourth quarter of 2006, creating market opportunities for the entire wireless value chain and delivering on the promise of wireless multimedia to subscribers.

FLO Technology is supported by the FLO Forum (www.floforum.org), an organization responsible for driving the global standardization of the technology. More than 25 leading wireless industry companies from around the world have joined the FLO Forum to ensure FLO Technology specifications will be open and available to a wide range of technology providers, and equipment and handset manufacturers.
