Europe
: The Portuguese mobile operator Optimus and Huawei Technologies both
came to an understanding to deploy a HSDPA network with significant
size over Portugal mainland, Madeira and Azores. According to the timing
plan, Optimus HSDPA network will be the first full-performance HSDPA
network of scale for commercial use in Europe.
It
is said that the cooperation of the two parties was stemmed from the
European tourist attraction Madeira Island. Optimus was first attracted
by Huawei's HSDPA solution and agreed Huawei to construct the trial
network around Madeira Island including high buildings and 12 tunnels.
Later, the system performance test and IOT test had set a consolidated
foundation for the strategic cooperation. In a following bidding, Huawei
offered a detailed HSDPA solution aiming at European telecom market
to Optimus. Since the solution supports advanced functions of HSDPA
and reduces OPEX greatly, Huawei has survived from the fierce competition
and was selected as one of Optimus' network suppliers.
"Huawei
strongly believes that it is delivering 'more value to customers' when
providing an end-to-end HSDPA solution," said Xu Wenwei, president
of Huawei Europe Region, "Huawei is world's first supplier to launch
full-performance HSDPA solution for commercial use, and is especially
competitive in HSDPA in-building coverage and hybrid IP transmission
as well."
"Deploying
one of European's first HSDPA networks of scale for commercial use"
is rewarding but will mean a great effort and investment for both teams. |
