US : EJL Wireless Research announces its fourth quarter 2007 base station contract analysis results. Fourth quarter contracts totaled 53, rebounding from Q3, but unlike in Q3, there were no announced billion dollar contracts.

The base station contract analysis reports are issued on a quarterly and annual basis and provide a unique perspective on the global cellular/PCS base station contract awards and demand for mobile base station equipment covering all major OEMs including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, LG Nortel Co. Ltd., and ZTE.

"Huawei Technologies edged out both Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks with 34% of total contract awards during the December 31, 2007 ended quarter. Clearly, 2007 was the year of Huawei becoming a Tier 1 OEM supplier," says founder and President, Earl Lum. Alcatel-Lucent, which led total contract wins for the first three quarters of the year, dropped off to fourth during the quarter.

"The GSM market shifted in favor of WCDMA/HSPA and EVDO technologies in the quarter with the split between 2G and 3G technologies at 26% and 74% respectively. Demand also shifted away from Asia Pacific back to Europe during the quarter which correlates with the higher concentration of 3G contracts awarded," says Lum.
