TMN, the mobile operator of the Portugal Telecom Group, has long been a pioneer in telecommunications. The company has operated a GPRS network since 2000 and is now preparing to launch UMTS technology-related services. TMN selected Geneva because of the software's wide-ranging functionality, particularly its convergent pre- and post-paid support. Following a competitive bidding process in which Accenture (NYSE: ACN) provided independent consultation to TMN, the contract to deliver the Geneva-based solution was awarded to Convergys. According to Eugenio Alves de Silva, TMN's IT Director, "We were impressed by Convergys' ability to deliver a complex implementation involving a number of best-of-breed products as well as by the fact that Geneva is a product with a roadmap of planned developments from which we will derive benefit in the future." At TMN's request, Convergys will manage the implementation project to integrate Geneva with external mediation and CRM applications. Convergys will develop the TIBCO middleware, plan the operating environment, and provide TMN with around-the-clock on-site operations and systems support. Stephen
Newton, President of Convergys EMEA, commented that this type of project
will not only allow TMN to benefit from Convergys' first-hand experience
with Geneva implementations, but also allows the two companies to build
a close and ongoing relationship. "TMN is one of the most progressive
mobile operators in Europe. We are proud that it will be using our software
to continue its programme of innovation, particularly in the area of
convergent pre- and post-paid services." Convergys'
product line of highly scalable end-to-end billing products, preintegrated
application suites, and application modules enables communication providers
to create fully integrated billing and customer care environments that
are adaptable, reliable, and cost-effective. Convergys products are
based on its proven and innovative Next Generation Framework, a component-based
architecture that provides unsurpassed flexibility, investment protection,
and support for convergent communication services. |
