CDMA Development Group Signs MoU

US : The CDMA Development Group announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Asociacion Hispanoamericana de Centros de Investigacion y Empresas de Telecomunicaciones (AHCIET).

This agreement allows for the exchange of information between the two groups on various aspects of wireless communications, as well as the joint organization of regional conferences and seminars, the coordination of studies and reports of interest, among other activities.

"The MoU with AHCIET further underscores the CDG's commitment to promote wireless services in Latin America," said Perry LaForge ( inset above ), executive director of the CDG. "As CDMA is one of the leading technologies in Latin America, and the dominant platform for next-generation services around the world, the CDMA community has the market knowledge and expertise to provide valuable contributions towards the continued expansion of wireless communications in the region. We look forward to a productive collaboration between our organizations."

"We are pleased to have reached this cooperation agreement with the CDG," said Francisco Gomez Alamillo, secretary general of AHCIET. "This cooperation will provide both associations with a better understanding of the important issues facing the mobile industry in Latin America and through it we will endeavor to power the service offering to members of both organizations."

Under the agreement, AHCIET and the CDG will exchange information and jointly organize conferences, seminars, meetings and roundtables on matters related to CDMA2000(r) and the advancement of wireless communications in Latin America. They will also collaborate on regulatory issues and develop common proposals for studies, reports and projects.

There are more than 33 million CDMA users in 20 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean. The region boasts the largest number of 3G CDMA2000 networks commercially deployed, with 26 CDMA2000 1X and 3 CDMA2000 1xEV-DO networks in 16 countries.

CDMA2000 leads in 3G deployments around the world, with more than 85 million users and 81 operators in 40 countries on six continents. CDMA2000 has 97 percent market share for 3G services. Nearly 40 percent of the global CDMA subscriber base uses CDMA2000 technology.
