The Mobile Station Modem(TM) (MSM(TM)) MSM6150(TM) chipset for CDMA2000(R) 1X and the MSM6550(TM) chipset for CDMA2000 1X, 1xEV-DO and GSM/GPRS deliver significantly increased processing capacity and optimized audio, video, camera and graphics capabilities. The Enhanced Multimedia Platform chipsets integrate modem and multimedia processor functionality onto a single chip to enable the development of sleek, sophisticated wireless devices that increase mainstream usage of wireless multimedia over third-generation (3G) networks. "We continue to deliver as promised on our commitment to developing the industry's broadest product offering of wireless chipsets, enabling our manufacturer and operator partners to provide consumers with new devices and services," said Dr. Sanjay K. Jha, president of QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "With Enhanced Multimedia Platform chipsets, our partners will create new opportunities and increase revenues by injecting enhanced wireless multimedia into today's mobile handset." The MSM6150 and MSM6550 are integrated, single-chip solutions that leverage the power of QUALCOMM's Launchpad(TM) suite of integrated multimedia technologies to maximize power efficiency in multimedia devices. As with all chipsets in the Enhanced Multimedia Platform, the MSM6150 and MSM6550 solutions are integrated with advanced capabilities, including: *
Camera: Up to 4.0 megapixel digital camera support for album-quality * Video: Record at 15 frames per second (fps) Common Intermediate Format (CIF) for camcorder-quality movies and playback at 30 fps CIF for crisp, on-demand video streaming * Graphics: 100k triangles/second, 7M pixels/second graphics functionality for console-quality gaming and graphics * Audio: 3D sound and MP3/AAC/aacPlus audio support for portable CD-quality listening * Performance: 225 MHz ARM9 processor for performance improvements of up to 50% over the Multimedia Platform chipsets * Connectivity: Mobile Digital Display Interface (MDDI) for reliable, low-power mobile display functionality and camera connectivity and integrated Bluetooth(R) 1.2 baseband processor for wireless connectivity to peripherals The MSM6150 and MSM6550 also include support for simultaneous decoding/encoding video telephony capability; support for popular video codecs, including H.264 and Real Networks; quality of service (QoS) to improve the user's multimedia experience; and broadcast/multicast services for cost-efficient use of air time and network resources. QUALCOMM's pin-compatible Enhanced Multimedia Platform solutions provide support for all major air interfaces, including multimode configurations, allowing manufacturers to leverage handset designs within the Enhanced Platform to minimize additional development time and expenses. All Enhanced Platform chipsets also share software compatibility, allowing easy software reuse when developing handsets for other air interfaces. The Enhanced Multimedia Platform chipsets each comprise a complete wireless solution. Both the MSM6150 and MSM6550 chipset solutions include QUALCOMM's radioOne(R) RFR6000(TM), RFL6000(TM) and RFT6100(TM) devices, and QUALCOMM's powerOne(TM) PM6650(TM) power management device. Receive diversity and simultaneous-GPS (S-GPS) are also supported using two RFR6000 devices. In December 2004, QUALCOMM will sample the RFR6500(TM) device, which will provide a low-cost, single-chip receive diversity and S-GPS solution. Receive diversity uses additional antennas and associated receive chains to enable improved signal reception, enabling higher data throughput and significant increases in network capacity for CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO networks, especially in dense urban environments. The S-GPS solution offers GPS operation simultaneously with CDMA2000 1X service in challenging environments. The MSM6150 and MSM6550 are part of QUALCOMM's family of S-GPS-capable wireless solutions that also include the MSM6250(TM) and MSM6500(TM) chipsets. The MSM6550 solution also includes the SURF6550(TM) development system for ease of verification and system software development. QUALCOMM's Enhanced Multimedia Platform, with support for all major air interfaces, includes the MSM6150, MSM6275(TM), MSM6280(TM), MSM6550, MSM6700(TM) and MSM6800(TM) solutions -- integrated chipsets that deliver increased processing capacity and lower power consumption to drive the global demand for 3G enhanced-multimedia products and services. QUALCOMM's
Enhanced Multimedia Platform builds on the proven success of QUALCOMM's
Multimedia Platform of single-chip solutions, commercially deployed
throughout the world -- paving the road to mainstream multimedia applications
and services. The Enhanced Multimedia Platform significantly increases
the graphics, camera and video playback capabilities of the Multimedia
Platform to further drive mainstream demand for 3G wireless multimedia.
Wireless multimedia performance will be further extended by the Company's
recently announced Convergence Platform chipsets -- high-performance,
dual-CPU single-chip solutions optimized to enable next-generation
devices that capitalize on the convergence of consumer electronic
devices and wireless. The Enhanced Multimedia solutions support QUALCOMM's
Launchpad suite of advanced multimedia, connectivity, position location,
user interface and removable storage functionality, including QUALCOMM's
gpsOne(TM) solution, the world's most broadly deployed assisted-GPS
handset technology. |
