The advanced capabilities of CDMA2000 1xEV-DO facilitate high-speed wireless Internet connection options for subscribers at data speeds of 300-600 Kilobits per second (Kbps). Subscribers with a compatible mobile phone, or a PC card or modem used with a laptop or desktop computer, can wirelessly access email, the Internet and even company networks. "Carriers around the world are turning to CDMA2000 1xEV-DO for its superior service delivery capabilities, propelling them to the forefront in bringing high-speed wireless data access to consumers," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "1xEV-DO not only provides customers with an enhanced mobile solution, but enables carriers, such as Telstra, to rapidly and cost-effectively provide broadband access in remote areas." SK Telecom first deployed CDMA2000 1xEV-DO in Korea in January 2002. Seven additional networks have been launched since, by KT Freetel also in Korea, KDDI in Japan, Vesper and Brasil Telecom in Brazil, PT Wireless Indonesia, APBWC in Taiwan, and Verizon Wireless in the United States. CDMA2000 leads in 3G deployments with 89 carriers in 40 countries on six continents. An additional 19 CDMA2000 networks will be launched in 2004. Today, 47 manufacturers provide more than 600 CDMA2000 handsets, including 59 1xEV-DO models. |
