Europe : Furthering its mission to make visual communications accessible everywhere, TANDBERG announced the acquisition of Ivigo, a leading provider of interactive multimedia video applications and a developer of video services for 3G mobile phones. The technology innovator is a division of TNO, the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research.

Ivigo, a pioneer in the development of circuit-switched video technology and standards, provides scalable solutions for 3G mobile operators, video service providers and enterprises for visual communication between 3G mobile users. The Ivigo team has also developed a video gateway that, combined with TANDBERG's Expressway(TM) technology for traversing network firewalls, allows 3G mobile phone users to reach any group or personal video system from anywhere - in the office, on the road, in a hotel room or at the airport. For example, a 3G mobile phone user can fully participate in a video meeting between a supplier and a coworker that are connected using the Internet. The 3G video gateway will be the first product resulting from the acquisition, and be sold to 3G mobile operators, video service providers and enterprises.

The 3G video gateway links 3G mobile handsets to the world of SIP, IP and ISDN used by business-quality video systems and infrastructure globally. This allows users to dial a number on their 3G mobile phone to place a video call to any video endpoint or multipoint control unit. Furthermore, with TANDBERG's multipoint control units and endpoints, callers can now also participate in video meetings involving multiple sites on ISDN, IP, V.35, SIP and 3G networks.

Solutions for 3G mobile operators and video service providers are already available, and trials of the 3G video gateway for enterprises will begin in the fourth quarter. The Ivigo acquisition and the 3G gateway solution significantly advance TANDBERG's service provider strategy, extending visual communication to a larger universe of users.

"Coupled with our Expressway firewall-traversal technology, this complete system will allow 3G mobile callers to reach their IP-based home office or remote-office video unit without being stopped by a firewall. Our solution is truly anywhere-and-anyone video."

TANDBERG did not disclose the purchase price for Ivigo.
