Globul to Launch 3G service in Autumn 2006

Europe Belguim : GLOBUL presented its 3G services at the CiscoExpo 2006, held in Sofia on June 28-29, 2006.

A week after the fastest growing Bulgarian operator revealed its new corporate vision, GLOBUL presented to media an sector professional some of the capabilities of its 3G services which are expected to be commercially available by the end of September 2006.

Video calls, video streaming (live TV and video over the mobile network), download and Internet browsing of the were demonstrated at the GLOBUL’s booth at the CiscoExpo 2006 along with some of the applications of the High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) technology which provides for even higher speeds of mobile Internet and data exchange.

GLOBUL’s UMTS network is already running in a test mode in Sofia and the company plans to expand it to other regions of the country in the short term. The exact description and the prices of the operator’s 3G services will be announced at their commercial launch in September 2006.

In a special presentation to media and experts, GLOBUL Switching & Services Director Stefan Kolev outlined the trends in the mobile technologies development and the market and also the main objectives in GLOBUL’s work regarding 3G services.

„GLOBUL’s 3G network is ready for the highest possible speeds that are presently achievable. WE successfully tested 3.6 mbps streaming but we are ready for even higher speed though there are no terminals that would support it. Surely, when GLOBUL launches its 3G services, all of our clients will have access also to the usual voice services, SMS and MMS. The integration of mobile and fixed-line voice services is the thing that will mainly move Bulgarian market in the short term.” – Mr. Kolev said.
