UK : O2 have come to an arrangement with the worldwide phenomenon Twitter which enables O2 customers to receive free SMS alerts from Twitter, starting in August.
O2 customers will be able to to receive tweets from chosen friends for free and can reply at the standard network charge. In combination with the Twitter mobile site, this package becomes even more significant.
Social networking on mobile devices has become increasing popular over recent times, with a million customers per month accessing Twitter from O2 active. In addition, thousands of iPhone customers that have downloaded social networking programs on their mobile.
“We believe that mobile will soon become the most popular way of accessing social networking sites, giving real time access to tweets and status updates wherever you are,” said Antony Douglas, Head of Content at O2. “The agreements we now have in place with Twitter and the other key sites brings this a step closer, making it quick and easy for O2 customers to access their favourite social networks straight from their mobile.”
This agreement will form a framework for future global agreements between Twitter and Telefonica.
