3G Rich-Media LBS Application Selected for Initial WCDMA Systems
24th June 2002
LocatioNet, the developer of a comprehensive middleware platform for the delivery of location-based services for the wireless market, announced that it has developed a location-aware information and business promotion service application optimized for advanced wireless data networks, called InfoCommerce. The application was selected by Ericsson for its initial WCDMA Systems, bringing 3G technologies closer to commercial reality. For this purpose, the application relies on superb geographical data from Tele Atlas and aerial photos from ISTAR.

InfoCommerce takes advantage of 2.5G and 3G benefits and capabilities with an emphasis on full color graphic content such as pictures, maps and video streams using MMS to allow for a rich user experience. Further, it also supports navigation with advanced routing capabilities over full graphical maps and aerial photos. The application uses the LocatioNet Platform, which allows the fastest time to market for multiple, most advanced, and rich location-enhanced services.

The application bridges the needs for effective information upon request and the m-commerce world, while providing continuous user experience and interface. For complete service utilization, InfoCommerce also supports coupons and advertisements of local businesses, maps and POI visualization, user's personalization, routing and navigation capabilities. InfoCommerce gives users the rich media and graphical experience expected from the third generation, today.

"After designing the application logic and GUI, programming InfoCommerce on top of the LocatioNet Platform took less than a month, says Tsur Halamish, LocatioNet's Director of Product Management. "This was yet another example of the rapid application development when using the LocatioNet Platform LBS Middleware and comprehensive API"

InfoCommerce promotes new streams of revenue for operators through the LBS service itself, content supplied to users, advertising businesses, and commerce transactions. InfoCommerce educates users with mobile data services, drives them to migrate to adopt 3G handsets, increases their service satisfaction, and attracts users to stay with their current operator.

InfoCommerce uses the LocatioNet Platform, which allows the fastest time to market for multiple, most advanced, and rich location-enhanced services.
