3G Network Operators Should Not Neglect Physical Infrastructure
24th June 2002

MRO Software is urging telecommunications operators not to neglect their physical infrastructure following the substantial investments in GPRS and 3G networks.

Marcel Van Velthoven, General Manager for Northern Europe at MRO Software, will be addressing the network challenges facing mobile operators in Europe at the Next Generation Infrastructure: Europe conference in Vienna, on Tuesday 25 June 2002 at 16:15 - 17:30pm. He will also discuss Quality of Service (QoS) issues, how telecommunications providers can optimise and maintain quality in the legacy network, and will present case studies on the implementation of asset management technology at Libertel-Vodaphone and T-Mobile.

Marcel, comments: "Telecommunications Operators need to ensure that the physical side, those parts of the telecommunications network which are necessary to facilitate traffic flow, are up and running efficiently and effectively, or they risk losing valuable customers to a competitor and irrevocably damaging critical revenues. Above all, they need to invest in technologies that help them to maintain the highest customer service levels.

Technologies that enable monitoring of network performance, that give them visibility of critical parts of the network and ensure that those parts have 100 per cent up-time."

Libertel-Vodaphone recognised a clear need for one single asset management system when it decided to implement MAXIMO, the leading enterprise asset management solution from MRO Software. Mr A. Jongen, Manager of Network Operations, Libertel-Vodaphone, highlights how critical it was to know how productive its assets are: "What is where and what is it worth? The time came when it was no longer possible to give a simple answer to that question. All the information was available, but spread out over numerous little database systems developed in-house."

Following the installation of MAXIMO Libertel-Vodaphone benefited from visibility of all its installed assets and had a single solution through which it could plan and carry out engineering and operation work.

MRO Software's has helped many telecoms providers manage their critical assets and increase productivity. These include Omnitel, Cegetal, SBC Ameritech, Tele2, Turkcell, FSR and Vodacom.
