AppEngine and 3G LAB’s Mobile Interface

16th June 2003

dynamicsoft and 3G LAB announced their partnership to develop a SIP-based customizable and dynamically updateable application environment for wireless carriers. The joint offering combines two award-winning products – the dynamicsoft AppEngine and 3G LAB’s Trigenix Mobile Interface Technology. This enables operators to easily build rich communications applications that combine presence, messaging and voice and deliver them via over-the-air downloads to a subscriber’s mobile phone.

This platform will give operators a new level of control and flexibility to brand and update service features on the handsets directly, exploiting the color screens and increased functionality of mobile phones based on open operating systems. The solution allows significant competitive differentiation today, with a clear evolution path to future standards-based networks. The dynamicsoft AppEngine and Trigenix enable immediate deployment of robust multimedia services on current GPRS networks. Previously, it was thought that these new services could only be deployed over fully 3G-compliant IMS (Internet Multimedia Subsystem) networks.

“Mobile carriers are looking for ways to deploy compelling services that increase revenue and decrease churn”, said Steve Roskowski, vice president of marketing at dynamicsoft. “SIP is a great way to rapidly develop and deploy the network side of the application. With the dynamicsoft AppEngine, a complex web-based call control application can be built with just a few lines of code. The 3G LAB partnership and the power of Trigenix address the key blocking issue for enhanced services – rapid development of a compelling, simple user interface.”

“During the roll out of new services on 2.5G networks and the early phases of 3G’s commercial rollout, operators need the flexibility to respond instantly to subscriber feedback on the applications and services they provide,” said Steve Ives, CEO, 3G LAB. “The combination of dynamicsoft’s SIP-based AppEngine and Trigenix Mobile Interface technology allows operators to easily customize and adjust presence applications such as push-to-talk, location-based services and instant messaging, helping them to ensure maximum service usage.”

The dynamicsoft AppEngine 3.2 reduces time-to-revenue for mobile carriers looking to create new value-added services or enhance services they have already deployed. Originally introduced in 1999, the AppEngine interoperates with leading media and conferencing servers, web servers, databases and billing servers. This industry-leading application development platform supports an entirely new spectrum of communications services such as presence-based instant messaging, voice conferencing, video services and email notification. The AppEngine also handles key management functions such as application configuration management, application fault management, application performance monitoring, run-time application upgrade, load balancing, fault tolerance and feature interaction, permitting developers to rapidly prototype, test and deploy carrier-grade applications in the network.

3G LAB’s Trigenix Mobile Interface technology delivers a customized mobile interface that allows operators to deliver a seamless and branded user experience that drives up revenues by encouraging customers to connect to data services. Trigenix 2.0 is made up of three components centered around the use, design and delivery of graphics, sound and animation packages (Trigs), over the air – the Trigplayer, the Trigbuilder and the Trigserver.

About SIP
SIP is the industry standard 3G multimedia call control protocol for voice and other real-time communications on wireless networks, allowing operators to build revenue-generating services that blend voice and data. SIP is especially critical for many presence-enabled services such as push-to-talk, multimedia messaging, video, location-based services, interactive multiplayer games and voice instant messaging. Presence – information about a user’s network status, ability and willingness to communicate and other dynamically changing data – is a key enhancement to the capabilities of wireless networks. It can be leveraged, for instance, by graphically adding a user’s online status to other users’ address books, making it easy and intuitive to communicate and launch interactive services. Industry momentum is growing rapidly around presence-enabled services as a means of driving service usage and increasing call completion rates.

About dynamicsoft
dynamicsoft’s software solutions enable wireless operators to build “subscriber-aware” communications networks. These networks drive higher revenue, increase network usage and strengthen subscriber loyalty via services that are tailored to users’ real-time status and communication needs. Today, operators have the power to transform traditional communications by giving users a more personalized, interactive and real-time communications experience. Leveraging dynamicsoft’s acknowledged leadership in wireless and Internet standards bodies, the dynamicsoft Presence Engine and AppEngine products deliver immediate value by enabling subscriber-aware services while increasing the long-term value of the carrier’s network.

About 3G LAB
3G LAB is pioneering the totally customisable user interface for next generation mobile phones. The company's Trigenix technology enables handset manufacturers, mobile network operators and individuals to personalise the mobile user interface for their own needs. This encourages consumers to adopt new services, allowing network operators to increase average revenue per user. Based in Cambridge, UK, 3G LAB was formed in March 2000 and comprises a mix of software engineers, interface developers and graphic designers. In addition to the Trigenix user interface technology, the company provides complimentary consultancy and development services to network operators and mobile content developers.
