Sony GPRS / 3G Mobile Music Streaming Service |
16th June , 2004 |
The service called StreamMan, has been developed by Sony Network Services and is the world's first personal mobile music service. StreamMan enables end-users to enjoy a large portfolio of songs from both major and independent record labels, as well as access dynamic news content, artist information, and community features such as messaging and music exchange. End-users can create personalised music channels and playlists, which are enabled by a unique, smart personalisation system that keeps track of individual preferences in order to provide a highly personalised experience for the end-user. The service requires a Symbian Series 60 or UIQ handset and a GPRS or 3G subscription, dependent upon the availability of the partnering mobile operator's network. End2End is responsible for the hosting, management, and delivery of the turnkey managed service solution, including the streaming and digital rights management platforms, which are managed using End2End's unique service delivery infrastructure. "We strongly believe that mobile phones will change the way consumers perceive and consume music and StreamMan combines the best practices from different media," said Andreas Spechtler, Director, Sony Network Services Europe. "We have joined forces with End2End to leverage their unique service delivery infrastructure and are looking forward to extending our successful partnership throughout Europe." "Ringtones and other music-related mobile data services have proven that consumers have significant interest and willingness to pay for music on mobile phones," said Soren Ravn, CEO, End2End. "Sony Network Services' StreamMan is one of the most attractive propositions available for mobile operators in terms of advanced data services. We are pleased that Sony Network Services has selected End2End as their delivery partner for this significant mobile initiative, further demonstrating End2End's capabilities in this space." StreamMan was commercially launched today with TeliaSonera in Finland and will be launched across Europe with major mobile operators in the near future. |
