Europe : Starting on July 1, O2 will be offering UMTS as well for private subscribers. The focus of these activities will be the first UMTS O2 handset, the Nokia 7600, and for subscribers who use the Internet regularly the Laptop Card UMTS/GPRS. In combination with the new O2 Active rate, subscribers can use UMTS via the Nokia 7600 UMTS. The Laptop Card UMTS/GPRS gives O2 users mobile access to the Internet as well as enabling them to answer e-mails while on the move. The Nokia 7600 will be available from July 1 in combination with an O2 Active rate and its price will start at EUR 199.85. Depending on the subscribers’ level of usage, different minute packages of 50, 100 and 250 minutes will be available. With the Nokia 7600, O2 subscribers can use the O2 Active Portal, plus send and receive photos and videos with data transmission speeds of up to 384 kbit/s. The Nokia 7600 is equipped with an integrated camera to enable users to make their own films and photos. The device also boasts a modern design, including a colour display with more than 65,000 colours. O2 Active SMS 0.19 €
/ SMS Starting immediately, private and business subscribers who want to use the Internet with their notebooks even while on the move, are well advised to use the Laptop Card UMTS/GPRS, which costs EUR 329.95, including VAT. When the user dials into UMTS the card supports transmission speeds of up to 384 kbit/s, almost six times the ISDN speed. When the user dials into the GPRS network, it supports speeds of up to 53.6 kbit/s. The roaming agreement with T-Mobile enables O2 subscribers to use the fast mobile data transmission in both the UMTS and GPRS networks of O2 and T-Mobile under the favourable O2 Active Data conditions. If the subscriber is using a laptop that supports WLAN, he/she can also use WLAN from O2 at around 450 hotspots in Germany. The delivery also includes the Connection Manager, which ensures the simple set-up of UMTS, GPRS and WLAN connections. The data rate O2 Active UMTS Data allows the subscriber to choose from three inclusive volumes that are geared towards users with low, normal or intensive data usage levels.
