T-Mobile Customers Beat Traffic Jams

27 June , 2005

Europe : T-Mobile customers beat traffic jams with live traffic information and roadside CCTV feeds direct to mobiles.

T-Mobile UK has announced that TrafficTV, a new service that delivers live traffic information and roadside CCTV pictures direct to mobile handsets, is now available for T-Mobile business customers.

TrafficTV delivers real time information from Trafficmaster using over 7,500 roadside sensors positioned alongside motorways and trunk roads throughout the UK. Accurate up-to-the-minute information is provided to business customers, alerting them to delays that occur on the road network, thus enabling them to plan their journeys more effectively. In addition customers can also download live roadside pictures using CCTV technology, thereby highlighting the extent of the problem on the road.

The application can be downloaded directly onto T-Mobile handsets. Once installed, business customers can simply connect to the service on their phone to receive details of the latest delays which are displayed on a scrolling map. Customers can then zoom into the area of interest to see how fast traffic is moving, the delay in minutes and live CCTV footage of the affected area.

James Hart, Head of Business Marketing, T-Mobile UK comments: "TrafficTV is the latest addition to T-Mobile’s Office in Your Pocket range, empowering business people through increased access to information on the move - providing them whatever they need, wherever they are and whenever they want it. TrafficTV will help our business customers to keep one step ahead of the game, enabling them to get to where they want, and avoid unnecessary delays."

The new service is now available to business customers for a free 14-day trial through <nobr<T-Mobile’s Business Partner channel. Business customers wishing to trial the service should contact their T-Mobile Business Partner for activation details.

After the trial period, business customers wishing to sign up for the service can subscribe for three, six or twelve month periods. A twelve-month subscription costs £39.99, equivalent to less than one call a week to premium traffic lines.

TrafficTV works on several T-Mobile handsets, including the MDA III, MDA Compact, SDA, Sony Ericsson K700i, Nokia 6680, Nokia 6230i, Nokia 6021 and Nokia 6020.
