Iceland : Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has been selected to provide its mobile TV solution to Síminn, Iceland's largest mobile operator. The service will give consumers easy access to Síminn's  mobile TV content and services.

The deal will provide Síminn with one of the world's fastest channel selector, making mobile TV channel surfing much more convenient - just one click on the mobile handset is needed to change channels. And its customers will also have access to an easy-to-use mobile TV service, including the Electronic Programming Guide (EPG).

Ericsson is delivering a complete mobile TV and video solution, and will develop, deploy and integrate enriched and advanced mobile TV functionality. Deployment will initially be targeted at residential consumers.

Thor Jes Thorisson, CTO of Síminn, says: "We consider mobile TV a very attractive entertainment service for our customers and we are very happy to provide them with an enriched user experience that lets them enjoy the service even more. Working with Ericsson makes us confident we will succeed in this task."

Lars Tofft, President of Ericsson Denmark, says: "We are happy that Síminn has chosen Ericsson as a partner in such a strategic area as multimedia, which is growing for both Síminn and Ericsson. With this partnership, Ericsson will assist Síminn in providing a first-class experience to its customers in this area."

Síminn already offers IP-based TV and radio services in Iceland, featuring more than 60 international TV channels as well as 11 local channels.  Additionally most Icelandic radio stations as well as 20 foreign music channels offering different music genres are available.

Mobile TV is going from strength to strength: more than 120 operators around the world have already launched commercial services, 90 percent of them based on mobile networks.

With more than 50 contracts globally, Ericsson has taken a market-leading position in mobile TV by supplying about half of the solutions used in commercial launches. Ericsson's end-to-end solution includes everything that is needed to provide Mobile TV, including network features, networks enablers, professional services and mobile phone clients.
