Europe : Nokia Siemens Networks has won a contract to expand Celcom’s 3G radio and packet core network in Malaysia, delivering to the operator a cost-effective, future-proof solution that will allow it to improve capacity, coverage and customer services quickly and efficiently.

Celcom’s upgraded network will be based on Nokia Siemens Networks’ ultra high broadband access network (with the advanced Nokia Siemens Networks HSPA technology). Using Nokia Siemens Networks’ modular, lightweight and future proof Flexi base stations, Celcom will enjoy quick roll-out times, which can significantly reduce power consumption and operational costs. In addition, the operator will be able to offer new services to its customers quickly with Nokia Siemens Networks’ unified Packet Core Solution.

”Nokia Siemens Networks is proud that Celcom has placed its trust in our solutions for an important project. There is a growing awareness in the market that solutions are reliable, cost-effective and offer operators the ability to address their customers’ needs, both now and in the future,” said JP Takala, Head of Customer Team, Nokia Siemens Networks.

Nokia Siemens Networks is the industry leader in WCDMA/HSPA, to date having deployed close to 130 WCDMA radio network references and enabling over 100 operators to launch HSDPA, with these networks connecting over hundred million subscribers.

The high-capacity packet core solution that Nokia Siemens Networks is supplying allows an operator to handle a huge number of mobile consumers, even for heavy data users. The Combi SGSN supports both 2G and 3G networks in one system, letting operators dynamically allocate capacity to the network where it is needed without adding new hardware. The SGSN can also be software upgraded to prepare an operator’s network for “flat architecture”, which will be part of Long Term Evolution mobile networks.
