First Multiplay Home Gateway with Built-in 3G Femtocell Module

First Multiplay Home Gateway with Built-in 3G Femtocell Module

17th June , 2009

France : Bewan Systems unveiled a new technology that solves the issue of coexisting 3G and Wi-Fi frequencies, whilst eliminating thermal dissipation problems. Integrated in the Bewan iBox home gateway, this technology has a built-in 3G access point module that uses a subscriber’s ADSL+ connection to transmit cellphone voice and data calls to the 3G core network.

The Bewan iBox Femtocell combines in one box a private mobile base station, an ADSL2+ router, a 10/100 LAN switch, and a 802.11g wireless access point with Hotspot functionality and Voice over IP. Its wide array of features reduces the number of additional networking devices and cables needed to set up a home network. It also ensures easier setting up, better interoperability and improved convergence for different connected digital home ICT devices.

This unique technological concept enables operators to reduce rollout, maintenance and after-sales costs as the 3G antenna built into the home gateway remains active permanently. The 3G network is therefore available round the clock. With this innovative solution, operators can extend mobile coverage right where it’s needed at a low cost. It represents a major competitive asset in the promising “Anytime, Anywhere, Any Device” home market. For mobile users, it also means robust and reliable mobile coverage in their home, at landline rates.

A pioneering technology recognised by the femtocell industry

The Femto Forum, an independent association that promotes femtocell deployment worldwide, has recognised the new femtocell technology developed by Bewan as an outstanding contribution and achievement in the femtocell industry. The company has been shortlisted as a finalist for the inaugural Femtocell Industry Awards 2009 in the category “Femtocell or femtocell network element design and technology innovation”. The winners will be announced at a gala awards dinner on June 24, 2009 at the Femtocells World Summit in London.
