Q1 Mobile Base Station Contracts Hold Up

US : Total contracts awarded within the wireless industry for Q1 reached 126, just down slightly from Q1 2008 levels according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research titled "Global Base Station Contract Analysis, First Quarter 2009."
"Nokia Siemens Networks secured 51.6% of total contract awards during the March 31, 2009 ended quarter, beating Huawei (17.5%) and ZTE (14.3%). Chinese OEMs captured 31.8% of overall contracts while each major base station vendor except for Nortel Networks secured at least one win during the quarter," says founder and President, Earl Lum.
"Demand remains heavily concentrated in Asia Pacific while surprisingly; Eastern Europe was the second most active region during the quarter. Chinese OEMs continue to dominate the CDMA2000 segment as they captured 100% of global contracts in Q1. Nokia Siemens Networks led the way with 46% of total WCDMA/HSPA /HSPA+ awards, followed by Huawei with 27.8%. 3G/3.5G/3.75G/4G contracts were 53.2% of total contracts," says Lum.
The base station contract analysis reports are issued on a quarterly and annual basis and provide a unique perspective on the global cellular/PCS base station contract awards and demand for mobile base station equipment covering all major OEMs including Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Motorola, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nortel Networks, and ZTE.
