| O2 Germany Launch Colour Mobile Portal |
14th March 2003 |
The graph presents the results of an evaluation by ChangingWorlds (6 weeks of mobile portal usage for more than 150 users) showing the relationship between click-distance™ and navigation time. Thus, the click-distance of a content item on a mobile portal is a strong predictor of the navigation time associated with its access. The results indicate that at most 12 clicks are possible within a 30-second period. The click-distance curve shows the average click-distance of a sample of portal accesses taken over a period of time and the navigation time curve shows how the navigation time of these accesses changed in the same period. It is clear that as click-distance falls, so too does navigation time. O2 Germany has deployed Dublin-based ChangingWorlds’ mobile portal personalization solution, ClixSmart Navigator, to deliver intelligent navigation on its mobile portal. ClixSmart Navigator automatically reduces click-distance™ (the number of clicks required to reach desired content on a mobile portal) through personalized intelligent navigation. This is done by dynamically adapting a mobile portal to the browsing habits and navigation preferences of individual users thereby reducing the click-distance to a user’s preferred content. O2 Germany licensed ClixSmart Navigator earlier this year, having completed a successful three-month trial during which click-distance was reduced by an average of 30%. O2 Germany is also benefiting from ClixSmart Menu Manager, an advanced mobile portal management tool and ClixSmart Device Manager, which supports a range of new colour handsets and enables O2 to present the portal in different ways depending upon the user’s device. The announcement clearly positions ChangingWorlds as a leading platform provider for intelligent, multi-access portals. “ClixSmart Navigator is one of the most exciting and innovative products to date in the mobile portal sector and fits perfectly with O2 Germany's can-do attitude according to Lutz Schueler, Senior VP of Product Management for O2 Germany “Smart Navigator, powered by ClixSmart from ChangingWorlds, exemplifies how intelligent navigation technology eliminates the long navigation times typically experienced by mobile Internet users thereby greatly improving usability. As the first implementation of its kind in Germany and mainland Europe, Smart-Navigator provides a major step forward in promoting usage of the mobile Internet and strengthening O2 Germany's leadership in mobile data.” Branded as ‘Smart Navigator’ by O2 Germany, the mobile operator is offering this new intelligent, colour portal to both pre- and post- paid customers. As the first implementation of its kind in Germany and mainland Europe, Smart-Navigator provides a major step forward in driving usage of the mobile Internet. The ClixSmart Navigator product suite is a complete mobile portal personalization solution, which aims to deliver benefits to operators on a number of important levels, not only in terms of revenue and usability but also reporting and publishing, device management and service monitoring. The technology is compatible with 2.5G and 3G environments. |
