3G Analyzer Updated

Anritsu Corporation has upgraded its MT8820A Radio Communication Analyzer with new functions for the evaluation of third-generation mobile telephone system, W-CDMA. The debut of the enhanced MT8820A gives Anritsu a leading edge in high-speed call processing test and transmission/reception measurement for 3G mobile terminals.

MT8820A Software enhancements
* W-CDMA external packet data (MX882051A-02)
This software enables the MT8820A to evaluate, on a Pass/Fail basis, packet data communication function of a W-CDMA mobile terminal.

* W-CDMA TV telephone test (MX882051A-03)
Installation of this software on two MT8820A units enables end-to-end videophone function testing for W-CDMA terminals under near-actual operating conditions.

About MT8820A Radio Communication Analyzer
The single platform of the MT8820A Radio Communication Analyzer installed with dedicated measurement software supports high-speed batch measurement of RF transmission/reception characteristic and call processing test for third-generation mobile terminals.
The system can achieve measuring speed of about 0.2 second or faster in RF transmission measurement of mobile terminals conforming to the 3GPP and 3GPP2 standards.
The MT8820A also offers the benefits of lower system cost and smaller footprint (occupying just 1/3 of the space of conventional models). Its single unit integrates fundamental digital mobile phone transmitter tester, signal generator and signaling tester functions.

The rapid spread of third-generation mobile telephones extends service coverage beyond browser phone systems enabling e-mail and internet use. New services utilizing packet data communications, including data communication via notebook PC, PDA or image input device (e.g. digital camera with a mobile terminal), and telemetering[*1] for vending machines, meter inspection and crime prevention are evolving.

Keeping abreast of these new services requires a measuring instrument that can test data communication functions of mobile terminals.
As W-CDMA terminals with videophone functions come into widespread use, manufacturing lines need efficient equipment to test videophone functions.

The MT8820A can perform high-speed batch measurement of RF transmission/reception characteristic and call processing test of W-CDMA terminals. Anritsu reinforced this analyzer's overall function and also built in software for external packet data[*2] and videophone function testing.

The addition of voice, data communication and videophone functions makes the MT8820A an even more complete test solution for W-CDMA terminals. This demonstrates how Anritsu advances W-CDMA mobile telephone data communications.

MX882051A-02 makes possible data transfer with an external terminal using the MT8820A's Ethernet port. With this function plus W-CDMA measurement and W-CDMA call processing software installed in the MT8820A, the unit can check if packet data transfer test function activated by PPP[*3] connection of a W-CDMA terminal works correctly.
The system can also test operation of W-CDMA terminal applications.
