CDMA2000 Wireless Expander Offering

23rd March , 2004

Europe : Ericsson introduced its CDMA2000 1X radio base station (RBS) 1143 and a new tower mount amplifier ( inset above )(TMA). Both products are part of the recently launched Expander offering which is designed to improve coverage and offer scalable capacity while providing cost-effective solutions for high growth markets.

"The RBS 1143 and TMA are another example of our commitment to helping operators offer cost-effective 3G services," said Egil Gronstad, vice president, product line management, with Ericsson Mobile Systems CDMA. "Ericsson's CDMA2000 product portfolio improves our customers' profitability by reducing costs throughout the network lifecycle, from initial capital purchase through installation, maintenance and operation."

The compact RBS 1143, built on Ericsson's true3G connectivity packet platform, is targeted for use in low-capacity applications where a single sector is ideal for coverage. Eliminating the need for traditional cell site enclosures, the RBS 1143 enables fast, flexible and economical implementation of cell sites in new locations.

Designed for reliability, the new, dual-duplex TMA can be used with all of Ericsson's CDMA2000 RBS products. Combined with the Ericsson MCPA, the TMA enhances overall network performance and extends coverage by improving reverse link sensitivity, allowing the RBS to pick-up mobile signals from a farther distance. Compact and lightweight, it can be easily installed close to the antenna. A cost effective solution that enables fast deployment with a reduced investment, the TMA provides extended coverage and mobile talk-time.

Ericsson's current CDMA2000 offering, including the RBS 1130 and 1140, and the recently announced solution for 450 MHz operators, is well suited for addressing operators' needs for cost-efficient coverage and high capacity in high growth markets. Ericsson's CDMA2000 Expander solution is comprised of products and services that cover the total mobile network, and provide low total cost of ownership, high reliability, enhanced coverage, and scalable capacity.

Ericsson's 1xEV-DV ready CDMA2000 solution for radio and packet networks, switching and applications/control is built on core 3G platforms that are common with its WCDMA offering. Ericsson provides solutions for all standards of CDMA2000.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
