US : Novatel Wireless announced CE certification for the Ovation MCU1000, the first generation in the Ovation(TM) Family of 3G Multimedia Application Consoles.

Ovation is a portfolio of stand-alone desktop consoles that unifies wireless wide area networking (WWAN), wireless local area networking (WLAN), circuit switch cellular voice and voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) technologies to provide cost-effective high-speed wireless broadband access, optimal call routing and the delivery of multimedia applications. The first platform in the Ovation family will provide broadband WWAN Internet access and advanced WLAN networking, and will be targeted at small- to medium-sized businesses, small office/home office (SOHO) users, corporate workgroups and residential customers in Europe. It will be distributed through tier-one European operators.

The Conversa software suite in the Ovation MCU1000 is designed to support innovative features that provide a rich end-user experience and optimize performance of the console through the following:

-- Broadband WWAN Internet Access - provides user-friendly wireless broadband access to the Internet, email, corporate networks and virtual private networks (VPNs).

-- Advanced WLAN Networking - allows residential and SOHO users to use Ovation to connect multiple devices including desktop PCs, laptops and other WiFi-enabled peripheral devices to wireless broadband Internet access from every office or room.

-- Location Based Services Support - built with location-based billing technology that assists carriers in managing network utilization and allows them to have far greater control over billing.

-- Advanced Security Firewalls - enables enterprises to safely share company documents and securely access email, the Internet and corporate information.

"Achieving CE Certification is a significant milestone in the rapid development of our Ovation product line," said Peter Leparulo, chief executive officer for Novatel Wireless. "We're very pleased with the progress and traction of our comprehensive product and technology strategy, which significantly increases our addressable market and expands our product portfolio. Ovation allows our installed base of operators to deliver new solutions and services to a growing broadband marketplace."

CE Marking enables Novatel Wireless to freely market the Ovation MCU1000 throughout the European market. This indicates that the Ovation MCU1000 conforms to a set of requirements that ensure safety, public health and consumer protection.
